The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) exam is often called the "Mini IAS" for a reason. It offers prestigious Group B and Group C posts in various ministries, including the Income Tax Department, CBI, and Ministry of External Affairs. However, with over 30 lakh applicants competing for roughly 8,000 vacancies, a strategic approach is mandatory.

Step 1: Understand the Changed Pattern

Gone are the days when rote learning could clear the SSC CGL. The recent changes have shifted the focus toward comprehensive understanding, especially in the General Awareness (GA) and English Comprehension sections. Tier II is now the decisive phase, and your preparation should be Tier II oriented from Day 1.

Step 2: Subject-wise Mastery

• Mathematics (Quantitative Aptitude): Focus heavily on Advanced Math (Trigonometry, Algebra, Geometry). Practice previous year TCS-pattern questions (2018-2025). Do not run after "short tricks" without understanding the core concepts.
• English: Reading comprehension is king. Read "The Hindu" or "Indian Express" editorials daily for 30 minutes. Build vocabulary contextually rather than cramming lists.

Step 3: The Importance of Mock Tests

If you aren't analyzing your mock tests, you aren't preparing. Attempt at least 2 full-length mocks per week initially, and increase the frequency to daily during the last month. Spend twice the amount of time analyzing the mock test as you did taking it. Identify your weak zones and revise those specific chapters.
