The Power of Self-Study in RRB NTPC

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) NTPC exam is one of the most highly anticipated exams in India, offering massive vacancies for Station Master, Goods Guard, and Clerk posts. The best part? You absolutely do not need expensive coaching to clear it.

1. Decode the CBT-1 Syllabus

CBT-1 is purely qualifying but highly competitive. It consists of 100 questions (40 General Awareness, 30 Mathematics, 30 General Intelligence & Reasoning). The focus here must be entirely on speed and accuracy. Negative marking of 1/3rd can easily destroy your chances if you rely on guesswork.

2. The General Awareness Strategy

General Awareness (GA) holds the maximum weightage. Do not try to memorize everything under the sun. Focus heavily on:

• Static GK: Indian History, Geography, and Polity (Lucent is more than enough).
• General Science: NCERT books from Class 8th to 10th are the holy grail. Pay special attention to Physics and Biology.
• Current Affairs: Cover the last 12 months with a focus on Sports, Awards, Appointments, and Government Schemes.

3. Mathematics & Reasoning

Unlike SSC CGL, the Mathematics section in Railway exams is heavily tilted toward Arithmetic (Percentages, Time & Work, Profit & Loss). Advanced Math is basic. For Reasoning, practice puzzles, seating arrangements, and syllogism daily.

4. The Secret Weapon: Mock Tests

Knowledge alone won't get you selected; time management will. Start taking full-length mock tests at least two months before the exam. Aim to complete the 100 questions in 80 minutes, leaving the last 10 minutes for revision.
